Community Briefs: River area seeking camp host

The Colusa Sacramento River State Recreation Area is seeking a camp host.

Anyone interested should contact Colusa City Hall, 458-4740, ext. 106.

 

Fish Fry will help Grad Night

A Fish Fry is scheduled for 4-7 p.m. Feb. 24 to raise funds for the Colusa High Sober Grad Night.

There will be choice of fish strips or chicken strips, with fries, cole slaw, dessert and beverage.

The event will be held at the Sacramento River Fire Protection station, 235 Market St., Colusa. The cost is $10. Children 10 or younger eat for $6.

Card party/luncheon Feb. 25

The Arbuckle Knights of Columbus will hold their first annual Card Party and Luncheon beginning at 11:30 a.m. Feb. 25 at the Holy Cross Catholic Hall, 608 Laurel St., Arbuckle.

Whist, bridge and pinochle will be played. The fee is $15 per person.

'Drop in to Read' days slated

Our Lady of Lourdes School will present "Drop in to Read" story time from 6-7 p.m. on Feb. 29, March 7, 14 and 21, at 741 Ware Ave., Colusa.

Stories will follow a fun theme each week, with hands-on activities to follow, suitable for children ages 3-8.

The series is sponsored by the Sacramento River Cats baseball team, which has provided a limited number of lawn tickets to children participating in the story times. For more information, call 458-8208.

 

Gray Lodge needs volunteers

Gray Lodge Wildlife Area is seeking volunteers, 18 or older, to take part in the annual Wood Duck Nest Box Program, the largest in the state.

Crews collect data and maintain the habitat areas. Work takes three to four hours in the morning, and is conducted biweekly from April to July.

An orientation will be held 9 a.m.- p.m. March 17 at Gray Lodge, off Pennington Road about 8 miles southwest of Gridley.

Participants should wear comfortable clothes and pack a lunch. Some boxes will be checked after orientation. For information, call 846-7505.

 

S.F. Flower Show trip planned

The Sutter Buttes Garden Club is hosting a trip to the San Francisco Flower and Garden Show on March 21.

The cost is $60, which includes admission and driver's tip. Check or cash only will be accepted. Tickets are available at Yuba City Florist, 996 Plumas St., Yuba City.

The bus will leave the Yuba City K-Mart parking lot at 8 a.m. and return at 7 p.m. For more information, call 673-4313.

 

Kite Day set at base of Buttes

The Middle Mountain Foundation is hosting a Kite Day from 1-4 p.m. March 25 at the north end of the Sutter High School soccer fields.

The entry fee is $2. There will be free kites for children as long as supplies last. Participants may bring their own as well. Kite-making lessons also will be available.

A drawing for a free hiking trip into the Sutter Buttes will be held.

Western Days cook-off coming

Sign-ups are being accepted for the Western Days Dutch Oven Cook-Off scheduled for March 31.

Sign-ups also are being accepted for the 500 official tasters for the event, which is sponsored by the Colusa County Chamber of Commerce and Colusa Casino resort.

There is no cost to enter. Tasting tickets are $7.
