Alumni pull out the stops to beat RedHawks
The Colusa High baseball program made the most of the perfect weather on Saturday by playing the second annual Baseball Alumni Game.
Alumni spanning a 27-year period played in a good-natured battle which pitted coaches against their players, friends against friends and even a father against his son.
Adler and Austin West returned to the field to play against the team they help their dad, Mike West, coach.
Maxwell High baseball coach Nate Manor returned to compete against some of the players he helped coach as an assistant on the RedHawks' football and basketball teams earlier this school year.
At one point, alumnus and assistant baseball coach Mike Herrick stepped into the batter's box to face his son, Conner Herrick, who was pitching. While the crowd was decidedly behind the son, the elder Herrick laid down a perfectly executed bunt to score a run.
In the end, the aggressive base running of the alumni — led by Geoff MacPherson, Brandon Rader, and Nico Valencia — proved to be difference in the game.
The annual Baseball Alumni Game is held the Saturday before Easter, with all proceeds going directly to the baseball program.
