Garden Club meeting Monday

Colusa's own award-winning flora designer, Jeneane Wilsey, will speak at the Garden Club of Colusa County meeting at 6:30 p.m. Monday.

The meeting will be held at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church at Fifth and Webster streets in Colusa.

Food distributions scheduled

The Community Action Agency of Butte County Surplus Government Commodities distribution will take place at the following locations:

Maxwell: 9:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. Wednesday, George E. Cain Children's Center, 185 N St., Maxwell. 438-2389.

Authors to speak on wagon trail

Authors David Nopel and Marti Leicester, who have written an account of the historic Humboldt Wagon Road from Chico to Susanville, will be the guest speakers at the annual meeting of the Friends of the Colusa County Library at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Colusa Industrial Properties conference room, 100 Sunrise Blvd.

Nopel is the son of well-known Butte County historian John Nopel and has joined forces with Leicester, a retired National Park Service ranger who lives on the Humboldt Wagon Trail.

A brief business meeting highlighting last year's activities and a financial report also will be held.

Safe Haven marking five years

The Safe Haven Drop-In Center is celebrating its fifth anniversary from 2 p.m.-4 p.m. Friday at the center, 131 Fifth St. in Colusa.

Child safety seat course offered

Certified child safety seat technicians are providing classes at the Colusa County Public Health Department on how to properly install and use the correct type of car seat for a child.

Registration is $20 and low-income families may qualify for a free car seat.

Flyers meeting on Sutter airport

The Sutter Buttes Regional Aviation Association will discuss plans for the Sutter County Airport at 10 a.m. Saturday in the council chambers of Yuba City City Hall, 1201 Civic Center Boulevard, Yuba City.

Founded almost a year ago, the association has formed a nonprofit organization to assume responsibility for the airport from Sutter County and to manage the day-to-day operations and future of the facility.

The meeting will have a morning session, a short break and then a business meeting at 11 a.m.

A mini fly-in and barbecue will be held at the Sutter County Airport, 100 Airport Road, Yuba City, the same day.

USS Iwo Jima reunion slated

A reunion of shipmates on the USS Iwo Jima (LPH2/LHD7) will be held on Oct. 2-6 at The Crowne Plaza Hotel in San Diego.
