Briefs: DUI checkpoint set for Colusa
Colusa police, coordinating with Avoid the 9 task force, will be conducting a DUI checkpoint somewhere in downtown Colusa on Friday.
The checkpoint is scheduled to be in force from 6 p.m.-3 a.m.
It is part of the task force's Memorial Day weekend enforcement schedule, which includes another checkpoint in Marysville on Saturday, and saturation patrols in Marysville, Yuba City and the unicorporated areas of Sutter County throughout the weekend.
WHS players raising money
The Williams High School football players will be selling tacos and running a dunk tank, allowing people the chance to dunk their favorite coach or administrator, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. June 1.
Proceeds will be used to send the players to camp.
The dunk tank and taco stand will be located on E Street, between Sixth and Seventh streets, near the Williams Arch.
Memorial Day events set
A Colusa Memorial Day service has been added to the traditional events held in Williams and Maxwell.
The VFW Post No. 2441 in Colusa will hold its service at 8 a.m. at the Colusa Cemetery on Wilson Avenue. The post will be joined by the Maxwell American Legion.
The Williams event will be held at 10 a.m. at the Williams Cemetery on Zumwalt Road north of town.
The Maxwell event will be held at 11:30 a.m. at the Maxwell Cemetery on Maxwell-Sites Road west of town.
State Fair volunteers needed
Volunteers are needed to staff the Colusa County exhibit at the California State Fair, which runs July 12-28.
Volunteers must be willing to talk to people about the county, and the various events that take place.
You will be asked to provide your name, date of birth, driver's license number and home ZIP code.

Fair cook-off sign-ups accepted
Entry forms for the Colusa County Fair commodity cook-off are available, and the deadlines to enter some other exhibits are closing fast.

Derby, Tuff Trucks at fair
Sign-ups for the Destruction Derby and the Tuff Trucks, Mud Drags, Dirt Bikes & Quad Racing at the 74th annual Colusa County Fair are being taken now.
Registration forms and the rules are available on the Colusa County Fair website, www.colusacountyfair.com.
The Tuff Truck competition is at 7 p.m. June 8, while the Destruction Derby is at 7 p.m. June 9, both at the grandstands of the fairgrounds, 1303 10th St., Colusa.
The fair runs June 6-9.
Logue to host town hall
Assemblyman Dan Logue, R-Loma Rica, will host a town hall meeting with state Department of Food and Agriculture Secretary Karen Ross from 6-8 p.m. on June 17 at the Veterans Memorial Building, 1425 Veterans Memorial Circle, Yuba City.
Butte, Glenn, Colusa, Yuba-Sutter, and Yolo County Farm Bureaus will co-host the event.
