DUI checkpoint planned tonight in Colusa
The Yuba-Sutter Avoid the 9 Task Force plans a DUI checkpoint tonight in Colusa.
Officers from Yuba, Sutter and Colusa counties will contact motorists, check drivers’ licenses, and look for those driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol from 5 p.m. to midnight, Sgt. Chris Sachs said.
Drunken drivers face possible jail time, steep fines and insurance hikes, license suspension and other expenses that police say can exceed $10,000.
In 2010, the most recent data available, 791 people died and more than 24,000 were injured in drug and alcohol-related collisions nationwide.
Authorities encourage motorists to report suspected drunken drivers by calling 911.
Program funding comes from the state Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Safety Administration.
