Community Briefs: Crawdad Festival slated for Saturday
The eighth annual Colusa Crawdad Festival sponsored by the Knights of Columbus Council 2145 and featuring live music will be held at the Colusa County Fairgrounds from 1 p.m.-10 p.m. Saturday. Proceeds from the event support community charities.

Colusa County Arts Council will be hosting Avenue of the Arts at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 14 featuring artist Noel Etchepare-Stubbelfield, a Maxwell native. Her medium is oil and watercolor paintings. Numerous other works from local artists will also be featured.

Media consultant to be guest speaker for businesswomen
Colusa County Chamber of Commerce will host its third annual Businesswoman to Businesswoman event at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 19 at Louis Cairo's in Williams.
The free event aims to provide area businesswomen with an opportunity to compare business ideas and explore possibilities for growing and nurturing successful women-owned businesses.
Professional media consultant and coach — and former news anchor — Jennifer Whitney will be the featured speaker. She is also a contributing author to the recently published "Raging Gracefully; Smart Women on Life, Love and Coming Into Your Own." Whitney is host of the radio program Proposition 63 Mental Health Services Action Segment, a project of the Free Your Mind Project.

Master Gardeners announces series of training meetings
Master Gardeners of Colusa County seeks volunteers.
Master Gardeners provide home gardeners with scientifically accurate knowledge and information based on University of California- approved research.

• 1 p.m. Oct. 1, Louie Cairo's patio, Williams.
• 6 p.m. Oct. 2, Steelhead Lodge, Colusa.
The training of Master Gardeners begins January 15th and will be conducted in Orland. The fee is $175.

Volunteers sought for Coastal Clean-up

Volunteers are invited for the second annual Coastal Clean-up in Colusa on Sept. 21. At 10 a.m., there will be a tour of Premier Mushrooms followed by a River Ecology and Nature Walk from 11:45 a.m.-12:15 p.m. The river clean-up will take place from 12:15 p.m.-2:15 p.m. The day will conclude with a barbecue and prizes between 2:30 p.m.-4 p.m.
Last year, volunteers picked up 61.7 pounds of trash and recyclables on Colusa's greenbelt along the Sacramento River.
