Broadband is meeting topic
People are invited to discuss broadband issues in the North State from 1 p.m.-3 p.m. Monday at the Colusa County Library in Colusa.

Stagehands open audition

Businesswomen's guest speaker
Colusa County Chamber of Commerce will host its third annual Businesswoman to Businesswoman event at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday at Louis Cairo's in Williams.
The free event aims to provide area businesswomen with an opportunity to compare business ideas and explore possibilities for growing and nurturing successful women-owned businesses.
Professional media consultant and coach, and former news anchor, Jennifer Whitney will be the featured speaker. She is also a contributing author to the recently published "Raging Gracefully; Smart Women on Life, Love and Coming Into Your Own." Whitney is currently host of the radio program Proposition 63 Mental Health Services Action Segment, a project of the Free Your Mind Project.
Peace Pole to be planted
Community members are invited to join in dedicating a community Peace Pole to honor all of those who have served to make our community a safe, peaceful and better place to live at the Williams Post Office at 1 p.m. on Sept. 20.
The Peace Pole will be planted in the name of PFC Rueben "Boy" Lopez, who was killed in action in Afghanistan on Aug. 11, 2011.
The Peace Pole is an international Symbol of Peace which bears the Message: "May Peace Prevail On Earth" in different languages of the world. To date, there are more than 200,000 Peace Poles planted worldwide. In Colusa County there are three planted and three more going up this year.
Coastal Cleanup in Colusa
Volunteers are invited for the second annual Coastal Clean-up in Colusa on Saturday. At 10 a.m., there will be a tour of Premier Mushrooms followed by a River Ecology and Nature Walk from 11:45 a.m.-12:15 p.m. The river cleanup will take place from 12:15 p.m.-2:15 p.m. The day will conclude with a barbecue and prizes between 2:30 p.m.-4 p.m.
Last year, volunteers picked up 61.7 pounds of trash and recyclables on Colusa's greenbelt along the Sacramento River.
This year's event is sponsored by Premier Mushrooms Inc., Steelhead Lodge Bar & Grill, Central Valley Gas Storage, Tommy's Market Street Grill, Net Impact Sacramento and California Coastal Commission.

Methodist Church to host Angolan guests
Trinity United Methodist Church in Colusa will be hosting two visitors from Angola on Sunday at 5:00 p.m. The California Nevada United Methodist Church is completing a decade of ministry and support with the United Methodist Church in Angola to provide hopes and dreams for the future of their people.
There will be a potluck dinner followed by a brief talk about what is happening in Angola in regards to "Imagine No Malaria." This will be an opportunity to learn first-hand how this partnership is bearing fruit in the global fight to eliminate the killer malaria.
Colusa TUMC is located on the corner of 5th and Oak Streets in Colusa. The program will be held in Friendship Hall adjacent to the church on 5th Street. Everyone is welcome.
Master Gardeners hold orientations
Become a Master Gardener of Colusa County volunteer. Master Gardeners provide home gardeners with scientifically accurate knowledge and information based on University of California approved research. If you have a love of gardening and commitment to give back to your community through volunteer work then Master Gardeners urges you to attend.

Y.E.S. Program hosts Flea Market

Colusa Fire to celebrate 140 years
The community is invited to come help the City of Colusa Fire Department celebrate their 140th anniversary from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Oct. 5. Lunch will be served until 2 p.m. at no cost to the public, although donations will be accepted.
The festivities include an open house tour, a cake cutting ceremony, supervised fire truck rides for children, music, lunch, raffle, kid zone and much more. A limited amount of plastic helmets and anniversary balloons will be given out to children under 10 years of age. Anniversary t-shirts will be on sale to the public.
Past employees and volunteers are encouraged to paticipate in an anniversary picture, which is scheduled to be taken at 2 p.m.
Catholic Ladies Relief Society
The Catholic Ladies Relief Society will hold their next regular meeting on Oct. 2 and all members are reminded to bring a new item for the October Layette shower. This is an annual activity for the group and items are brought to the local hospital for newborns.
On Oct. 20, a pot-luck dinner will be held honoring Father Arbel Cabasagan at St. Bernadette's Hall. Father Arbel was recently assigned Pastor of Our Lady of Lourdes Church. The dinner is in honor of his birthday and six years since he was ordained.
Chamber to host first Colusa Harvest Festival
Colusa's first annual Harvest Festival will be held 11 a.m.-3 p.m. on Oct. 12. The event will include a Sarecrow Walk along Market Street and other business areas in Colusa and activites, including face painting, bounce house, and vendors, at the Colusa County Court House.
Organizers hope to draw people from all areas to join us in celebrating our harvest season and support local businesses in the spirit of small town unity.
