Colusa girls net win to end weekend
The two teams matched each other point for point in the second half, but it was Colusa High's 33-28 scoring advantage in the first half that they rode to a 57-52 victory against Winters on Saturday in the 46th annual Trojan Classic at Durham High.
Salley Loeza led a trio of RedHawks scoring in double figures with 16 points, and she was joined by Teale Stacey and Mollie Townzen, who scored 13 apiece.
Two of Stacey's hoops came from behind the 3-point line, and Townzen and Emily Corriea also had long-distance calls answered.
Townzen made her presence known on the glass, with her team-best 14 rebounds polishing off a double-double.
Orland 51, Colusa 49
After taking a 47-39 lead in the fourth quarter on Friday, the RedHawks saw that lead evaporate in about a minute as the Trojans came back for a two-point win.
The final period began with the score knotted at 33-33, but after a free throw by Natalia Velasquez gave Orland a one-point lead, Colusa rattled off the next nine points. Andrea Thomas made a pair of baskets with post moves, Townzen hit two free throws and Loeza completed a three-point play making it 47-39.
The RedHawks were out-scored 12-2 the rest of the way, and missed a couple of scoring opportunities on rebounds as time ran out.
Townzen did her part with 20 points and 22 rebounds, with Loeza scoring 12 points and Thomas, 11.
Becca Gaddini hit 15 points for Orland, with Taylor Matousek adding 11.
Willows 58, Colusa 43
Colusa hung with Willows for the first half in their opener on Thursday, but were out-scored 32-21 in the second half by a balanced scoring attack on the part of the Honkers.
Willows got 16 points from Ally Brunner, 11 by Kaylin Jones and 10 from Morgan Hughes.
Loeza led Colusa's scoring with 12 points, followed by Stacey with 11.
Thomas got busy on the backboards for a team-best 12 rebounds.
The Lady RedHawks (3-5) are taking part in this weekend's Marty Passaglia Invitational in Hamilton City.
