County looking to fill vacancy
The Colusa County Board of Supervisors is looking to fill two vacancies on the Colusa County Cemetery District. Free car seat clinic at CHP
The California Highway Patrol will conduct a free care seat inspection clinic from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today, at the CHP office, 100 E. St., Williams. The event is in conjunction with the Colusa County Volunteers in Service, who will be providing free child identification and the Williams Fire Department. Spaghetti dinner served in Maxwell
The Maxwell Methodist Church will host a spaghetti dinner from 5 to 8 p.m., today. Take out available. This annual fundraising event for the church includes raffle and crafts for sale. Tickets available at the door or from any church member. Dinner is all you can eat for a donation.
Firefighters host family fun event
The Colusa Firefighters Association Demolition Derby will be held at 7 p.m. today, at the Colusa Fairgrounds. Gates open at 5 p.m. Admission is $15 adult $7 child. Tickets are available at 750 Market St. in Colusa. Details: 458-7721.
E-waste has Williams disposal place
Recology and the city of Williams now offers free monthly drop off of electronic waste, such as TVs, electronics, household batteries, fluorescent tubes and computer waste, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., on the first Friday of every month at the city public works yard, 735 7th St. Williams. Bible teacher to visit Colusa
Worship leader and Bible teacher Pat Wood from Calvary Chapel Rathdrum in Idaho will speak at Love of Calvary Church, 1600 Westcott Road, Colusa, at 10 a.m. Oct. 25. The public is invited.
Car show, barbecue helps revitalize Arbuckle
The annual Arbuckle Revitalization Committee car show and depot barbecue will be held Oct. 25 in downtown Arbuckle. Biggest event of the year. Lots of cars, vendors, entertainment and food.
Sacred Heart dinner benefits church
The sacred Heart Parish Catholic annual bazaar and dinner will be from 4:30 to 7 p.m. on Oct. 25, at the Legion Hall in Maxwell. A turkey dinner with all the trimmings will be served. Take out is available. Tickets are $10 for adults; $4 for children 4 to 10; age 3 and under are free. Tickets sold at the door or in advance by calling the church office 473-2432 or Jean Roper 438-2438. Event includes silent auction, country store, bake sale, kid's games, paddlewheel and raffles.
Book fair begins Halloween day
Burchfield Primary School with present "Destination Book Fair, Oct. 31- Nov. 6. "Early Bird" shopping from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 31. Anyone wearing a costume to purchase a book on Saturday will receive their purchase in a trick-or-treat bag with a treat. The book fair will continue from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Nov. 2. and again that evening. Donnie Crandell will perform his Magic Show in the cafeteria, free of charge for all, at 6 p.m. Following the performance, the book fair will be open until 8 p.m. The book fair will be open the following hours for the remainder of the week: 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Nov. 3-6. Coats needed to keep kids warm
Impact Life in Colusa is accepting donations of new or gently used coats for those in need. Please drop off at one of these sites: Grimes Boy Scout Cabin from 11 a.m. to noon, Oct. 30; Family action Center, 812 King St, Arbuckle, from 9 to 11 a.m. Nov. 2. Family Action Canter 901 E. Boogie down with line dancing in Colusa
The City of Colusa Parks and Community Services will offer a County Line Dancing course, from 1:30 to 3 p.m. each Sunday, Nov. 1 through Dec. 17. Instructor is Loraine Joy McBurney of Arbuckle. Poinsettias for holidays help school libraries
Egling Middle School students will sell red poinsettia as a fundraiser to benefit the school libraries. Plants on sale beginning Oct. 27. The red poinsettias are florist quality and will arrive in 6 inch pots. Cost: $12. All orders are due Nov. 20. Plants will be ready for pickup between 8:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. December 3-4 at Egling Middle School.
Dinner and bazaar in its 50th year
The Grimes Ladies Aid will celebrate the 50th anniversary of its annual Dinner and Bazaar, beginning at 5 p.m. Nov. 7, at Grand Island Elementary School in Grimes. Turkey dinner with all the trimmings will be served. The event will feature bazaar booths offering linens and crafts. The Country Store will offer home canned items, local produce, homemade candies, jellies and baked goods. Also a tradition; the ladies will raffle off a beautiful handmade quilt made by Beverly Thayer. Tickets are available at the door. Adults $10; children 6-13, $5 and children 5 and younger, free. Colusa residents asked to rake leaves
Official leaf pickup does not begin in Colusa until the first part of November. Between now and November, Colusa officials urge citizens to rake fallen leaves in front of their homes and place them in their yard-waste container each week to avoid leaf buildup in drain culverts and driveway drains, so large amounts of standing water doesn't develop.
Soroptimist looking for members
