A fabulous treasure or hoax

Please join the Friends of the Colusa County Free Library for an evening with author Arnold J. Bauer. Learn about the mysterious emergence of a fabled painted book that traces the history of Mexico from the early 1200's to the mid-1500s.

A reception will start at 6:30 p.m. with the program beginning at 7 on Thurs. Held at the Colusa County Business and Visitor Center, 2963 Davison Court, Colusa, call Catherine Bernard at 458-5601 for more information.

Quilter's guild workshops available

The Pacific Flyway Quilters will host guest speaker Linda Ballard on Feb. 17-18 at the Masonic Hall in Colusa. The quilters must register in advance of the workshop. The cost is $35. For more information, call Jan Highman at 458-4144, Arlene Arnold at 458-7597 or Stephanie Quintana at 458-2875.

Learn to knit

Colusa is offering a knitting class taught by Frankie Forney and Sue Nicoletti from 1-4 p.m. on Feb. 18 at the City Hall conference room. The cost is $15. Class will include instruction on Casting On, Purl and Garter Stitches, along with Continental and English methods. Submit your theme for the Maxwell Rodeo

The 80th annual Maxwell Rodeo Theme Contest entry forms are now available. Pick one up at the Maxwell district office, elementary school, Maxwell Market, Post Office or the Chevron statio Deadline to turn in the completed form is Feb. 19. A $25 cash prize will be awarded to the winner.

Children focus of refuge firefighting event

The fire management staff at Sacramento National Wildlife Refuge will hold a number of fun activities related to the field of firefighting, with children as the main focus. These programs will be held from 10 a.m. to noon on Feb. 20 and April 17. It is great for Boy and Girl Scout groups and young people between grades 3-6. To sign up, call 934-2801.

Church hosting fundraiser dinner

The community is invited to the annual Arbuckle United Methodist Church chicken/ham dinner from 5-7 p.m. on Feb. 21 at the Arbuckle Fire Hall. Tickets are $10 and children 4-12 years are $4. A quilt raffle as well as children's activities will be part of the event. Tickets are available from any church member or at the door.

Sign up your mighty mite for T-Ball

Colusa Parks and Community Services Department is taking sign-ups for the 2010 Mighty Mite T-Ball season for girls and boys born between 2003 and 2005. Registration is $25 for city residents and $33 for non-city residents.

The last day to sign up is Feb. 26. Coaches are also needed. Forms are available at Colusa City Hall, 425 Webster St. For more information, call Sandy at 458-5622, ext. 109 or Lani at 458-5622 ext. 101.

Yoga courses offered by Colusa

Sign up now for yoga and meditation classes to be held every Saturday morning from 10:30-11:45 a.m. at the City Hall Auditorium beginning March 6. Four sessions cost $45 and beginners are welcome, taught by certified yoga instructor Baylea Protine. Deadline to sign up is Feb. 26. Call Sandy at 458-5622 ext. 109 for more information.
