Briefs: Mad Scientist Week set

Children ages 5 or up can learn about volcanoes, insects, art and more during Mad Scientist Week, 9 a.m. to noon Monday to July 18.

The cost is $65.

Fly-in at Colusa slated July 21

The 16th annual Old Time Fly-in at the Colusa County Airport will be held July 21.

Breakfast will be served from 7:30-10:30 a.m., and lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Meals are free to the pilots and their passengers. Breakfast is $6 and lunch $8 for others. A raffle will also be held.

The airport is located along Highway 20 east of Colusa.

Veterans holding charity picnic

The Colusa County Veterans Picnic will be held from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on July 28 at Davison Park at Ninth and Parkhill streets near the swimming pool in Colusa.

The tri-tip lunch is $15. There will be a raffle and door prizes.

Proceeds benefit Maxwell American Legion, Colusa Veterans of Foreign Wars and the disabled veterans program, Field of Dreams.

AARP Driver's Safety class set

The Colusa Parks and Community Services Department will host an AARP Driver's Safety course for new or returning seniors.

Seniors 50 or over who compete the class are eligible to receive a discount on their auto insurance.

The 8-hour class for those who have not complete a course within the past four years will be held from 8:30- a.m. to 4:30 p.m. July 27 in the conference room at City Hall, 425 Webster St., Colusa.

The renewal class will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 28, for those who have completed the 8 hour class within the past four years.

The cost for ether class is $17 for AARP members or $19 for non-members. Space is limited to 25 participants.

Register and pay your course fee with Lani by July 25 at City Hall, 425 Webster St., Colusa.

Any person who has ever worked in any capacity for a school or learning institution may take the course for $10. Call Jim or Cynthia White for more information at 458-2227.

Bowling benefit for cancer set

Registration is being taken for the fourth annual Bowling for Boobs fundraiser for the Colusa Breast Cancer Fund set for July 28 at Riverside Lanes in Colusa.

The cost is $25 for each bowler, and $12.50 for youth bowlers who want to participate in the first junior tournament.

Sign-ups are being accepted during normal Riverside Lanes hours, and specifically with event chairwoman Shannon Ibbotson from 6-9 p.m. on Tuesdays leading up to the event, and 9 a.m. to noon and 5-9 p.m. today.

A raffle also will be held, and there will be a number of prizes awarded, including one for best costume, and one "booby prize." All proceeds after costs go to help local cancer patients.
