Briefs: Board seeks nominees

The Colusa Glenn Subwatershed Program board of directors seeks nominees to represent growers in Colusa and Glenn counties.

The current grower representative is John Garner, a Colusa County farmer.

The program assists its members to meet requirements of the mandated Irrigated Lands Regulatory Program through the California Regional Water Quality Control Board.

The at-large election will be a by-mail vote. Election and voting rights are open to the active members as of Oct. 1. Ballots are due by Monday.

The election date is Jan. 1, for a three-year term.

Agricultural group holding gala

Partners for the Future of Agriculture will host its second annual New Year's Eve Gala on Monday at the American Legion Hall on Oak Street in Maxwell.

Social hour starts at 5:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 6:30. There will be an auction and raffle following dinner and then dancing to the music of the Highway 20 Band. Louis Cairo's of Williams and Tommy's Market Street Grill of Colusa will cater the dinner.

Donations of $50 per person are being requested. Proceeds benefit the Maxwell High School Ag/Shop programs.

Input on expansion sought

The Colusa National Wildlife Refuge is proposing adding 75 acres to its hunting area, and the public can comment on the plan.

The land is already part of an undeveloped area of the refuge. No new land is being acquired, and none of the visitor area will be reduced.

There are two documents to be reviewed: Compatibility Determination for Hunting and a draft Environmental Assessment. The comment period ends on Feb. 21.

Motor-Icicle Run set

The annual Motor-Icicle Run, a pledge ride to fund a memorial for the Orland's heroes and to light the historic Orland Arch, will be held Jan. 19.

Meet at the Orland Fire Department, Fifth and Colusa streets, at 7 a.m. for a pancake breakfast, $6, followed by the ride, 8-10 a.m.

A chili feed, 50/50 and prize raffle will follow immediately after the ride.

Entry fee is $20 per rider and $5 per passenger.

Pledges are encouraged.

Lunches for seniors available

Anyone 60 or older is welcome to the senior lunch program served at noon each Monday through Thursday at the Boy Scouts Cabin at 901 Parkhill St. Colusa.

A donation of $3 per meal is requested.
