Community Briefs: Aug. 18, 2010

Community blood drive

Colusa will host a community blood drive from 2-6 p.m. today at the Presbyterian Church on Fourth and Jay streets. Baskin Robbins and BloodSource have teamed up for the "Give a Pint Get a Pint" promotion. Give a pint of blood and receive a certificate for a pint of Baskin Robbins ice cream. Participants must be 17 years old and weigh at least 110 pounds. For more information, call Robin Carter at 332-2706.

Electronic 4-H enrollment

Colusa County 4-H enrollment is now electronic and there will be two nights available to enroll. The first night will be from 6:30-8:30 p.m. today at the Princeton High School computer lab, 473 State St., Princeton, and from 6-8 p.m. Aug. 25 at the Pierce High School computer lab, 966 Wildwood Road, Arbuckle.

Parents must attend enrollment, bring medical information and be prepared to pay a $30 enrollment fee for members and $6 for leaders.

Animal control raise concerns

Anyone interested in discussing changes, improvements and the strengthening of Colusa County animal control laws — such as leash laws, dangerous dogs, puppy mills, animal cruelty and kennel licenses, is asked to send an e-mail to foccas@colusanet.com. A community forum will be announced at a later date.

The interest was spurred by a Williams case in which a pit bull reportedly killed a poodle, but by law, returned to the owner, who was fined this week in Colusa County Superior Court for letting the dog run free.

Film Commission meeting

The Colusa County Film Commission will host a meeting at 12:30 p.m. Thursday at the City Hall meeting room, 425 Webster St., Colusa. Bring photos and ideas. Your input is needed for the first annual spring festival. For more information, contact Dr. Marilyn Kennedy at 405-6909.

Car wash in Princeton

The Princeton Community Eagles yard sale and football team car wash will be from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Princeton Park, 232 Prince St. Proceeds from the yard sale will benefit the students of the Princeton Joint Unified School District, both in academics and athletics.
