Letter: Troughton for Williams council
This year’s election is a very important one, not only nationally but locally as well. In these difficult times, I think that it is very important to have leaders who are well informed and ready to step up to the plate to lead our city. That is why I am endorsing John Troughton Jr. for Williams City Council.
In 1962, John started his career as a member of the Williams Reserve Police Department, and in 1963 was hired by the Colusa County Sheriff’s Department, where he served until 1981. He was elected sheriff in 1974 and in 1978. As sheriff, John prepared jail and Sheriff’s Department budgets and has taken numerous college courses in law enforcement and jail operations.
While living in Colusa, he was a Little League coach and the founding president of the Colusa Redskins Foundation. When he moved back to Williams, he was a director on the founding board of the Brown and Gold Foundation.
John’s grandchildren grew up in Maxwell, and he coached girl’s softball, Maxwell Little League and Maxwell girls varsity basketball for two years while his granddaughter played. He led the building of the dugouts of the Maxwell Little League and softball field.
I can’t think of a more qualified, fair, and outspoken representative for our community in these difficult and uncertain times.
