Los Molinos teen killed in crash
The driver and passenger of a Toyota Corolla were killed on Friday in crash in the Capay area.
The crash occurred around 6:40 p.m. when Nayell Ortiz, 22, of Santa Ana, who was driving the 2001 Toyota northbound on Sixth Street, ran the stop sign at Wyo-County Road 9, directly in the pathway of an eastbound Chevrolet Silverado pickup traveling at approximately 60 mph, reported California Highway Patrol Sgt. Tony Odell.
Ortiz and her passenger, Richard Coon, 19, of Los Molinos, were pronounced dead on scene by paramedics, said Odell.
The sergeant said Ortiz and Coon, who was a former resident of Corning, where wearing their seatbelts when the collision occurred.
The impact caused the pickup to overturn, and its driver, Daniel White, 28, of Chico, was transported to an area hospital with moderate injuries, CHP reported.
Odell said it unknown if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the accident.
