Feast on Thanksgiving Day at Colusa church

 

A Hand Up, along with several community and church members will be hosting a full-course Thanksgiving feast Thursday from noon to 2 p.m. The church is located at Fourth and Jay streets in Colusa.

Hike planned in the Sutter Buttes

The Yuba Historical Society invites you to join them at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday for the six-hour Ridge Walker Delight hike. Cost for the hike is $35, $10 extra for non-members. To register, learn more about the hike and get directions to the meeting site, call 846-3024 or visit www.yubahistory.com.

Give blood, save a life

The BloodSource Toy and Blood Drive is on Sunday from 9 a.m. to12:30 p.m., sponsored by the Knights of Columbus No. 2145 and the Colusa County Sheriff's Department. Located in the school hall at 735 Ware St. in Colusa, all participants will receive a free T-shirt. There will be a collection barrel for new, unwrapped toys for the CHP's for Kids Toy Drive. Coaches needed for children's basketball

Coaches are still needed for the Colusa Parks and Community Services Department Mighty Mite's boys and girls basketball. The cost for players is $40 for Colusa residents, $48 for non-Colusa residents. Everyone receives a medal and T-shirt. Register by Dec. 4. Games begin in January. Waffle and pancake breakfast planned

Williams Co-op VBS is hosting the Williams Community Church Bazaar from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Dec. 5 on the corner of Ninth and C streets. A pancake and waffle breakfast will be served. The cost is $4 for adults, $2 for children. For more information, call 438-2227

Join the Stonyford holiday festivities

The Stonyford will hold its annual Christmas Craft Faire from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Dec. 5 at the Stonyford Community Hall. Crafts, baked and canned goods, honey items, quilts and more will be available. To rent a table or for more information, call Barbara Leach at 963-3197.

Learn to make Holiday wreathes

The Colusa Parks and Community Services Department is offering a holiday wreath-making class from 2-5 p.m. on Dec. 9 at the Senior Center/Scout Cabin, 901 Parkhill St. in Colusa. The cost is $30 for city residents and $38 for out of city residents. The last day to sign up is Dec. 1. For more information, call Sandy at 458-5622 ext. 109.

Take a ROP class for free

The Colusa County Office of Education offers free, on-going classes in applied marketing and office education. Classes are held in the Community Learning Classroom at 345 Fifth St. in Colusa. Call Cassandra Fine at 458-0350, ext. 10331 for more information.

Jarvis group grades Aanestad highly

Sen. Sam Aanestad, R-Grass Valley, has been given an "A grade" by the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association for his voting record.

The grade on the group's 2009 Legislative Report Card was based on Aanestad's votes on 35 bills.

Wildlife Service seeks public input on refuges

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service will be taking public comment on its Comprehensive Conservation Plan for the Butte Sink, Willow Creek-Lurline, and North Central Valley wildlife management areas

The three wildlife areas include Fish and Wildlife and private lands protected by conservation easements. They are part of the Sacramento National Wildlife Refuge Complex and are located in Tehama, Butte, Glenn, Colusa, Yuba, Sutter, Placer, Yolo, Solano, Contra Costa, and San Joaquin counties.

The hearings will help develop the long-term management goals, objectives and strategies.

Members of the public are invited to meet with Service representatives to discuss their ideas, suggestions, and concerns regarding the three WMAs at the following scheduled open houses:

The meetings will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Dec. 1 in Atwood Hall at Colusa County Fairgrounds; from 6-8 p.m. at the Gridley Community Center, 200 E. Spruce St., Gridley; and 6-8 p.m. on Dec. 3 at the Yolo Bypass Wildlife Area, 45211 County Road 328. Davis.

The public comment period extends to Jan. 15. Comments also can be mailed to Jackie Ferrier, refuge planner, Sacramento National Wildlife Refuge Complex, 752 County Road 99W, Willows, 95988, or e-mail to Jackie_Ferrier@fws.gov.
