What's Happening in Stonyford: Happy 85th birthday, Doc Bill

A birthday party was held for Doc Bill last Saturday.

There was a huge gathering at the Town Hall. Family, friends, former co-workers were there to celebrate with him. I think half the crowd was family. There were children, grandchildren, greats and great-greats. There was an abundance of great food, as there always is when we have a gathering in Stonyford.

Doc is 85 and doing very well. Happy Birthday, Doc!!

East Park Reservoir is open now for weekends only. It should be open full-time in the near future. The lake managers usually hope to be open mid-April, but our weather has been rainy lately and the roads will be soft. There should be good fishing when it's opened.

Sew What?! has started up strong. The sewing group meets at the Grange on Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; bring a lunch.

Mary started quilting last year as a beginner. We attended a "Show and Tell" event at Paskenta last month and it inspired her. She's made seven quilt tops this month! Now we have a chore to get them finished. What a dynamo! Welcome new stitchers, Lana and Judy.

We have a break next Wednesday, as the Chit Chat group is using the hall. Next sewing day is April 25.

Tuesday (April 17) dinner at the Grange will be spaghetti this week. Includes bread, salad, and dessert, served from 5-7 p.m. Larry's cooking; it should be really good. You may eat in or take out, or we will deliver if you're not too far out. Cost is $6, as usual.

The Grange is planning a flea market on May 26, the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend. There will be a snack bar with hot dogs and chili, a bake sale table, a white elephant table, and a raffle with lots of goodies. Tables or outside space are available, $10. Call Larry at 963-3050 to reserve your space now. Inside space is limited.

The representatives from The Gideons International will be at the Community Church this Sunday with a presentation. Their purpose is Bible distribution and evangelism.

This is the organization that provides hardcover Bibles in hotels and motels as well as other places. Service starts at 10:15 a.m. Everyone is welcome; come hear their message.

Stonyford Rodeo is happening on May 5-6. For presale tickets, call 963-3255.

If you have questions about any of these items, or if you have news of an event, please give me a call, Linda Trombley 963-3050.
