Community divided
Dear Editor,
Why stir the “stink”? Should have just left it alone and let the Feds force the change. We all know that was coming anyway, so why bring it up? Notoriety? Pressure? What? I don’t get it.
The outcome....our community is now divided! We have locals that agree with the removing of the “Redskin name” from the school because they are “proud” of their heritage. And there are the students, Alumni, etc. that wish to keep it because they are “proud” of the history of being a “Redskin”. Either way, the community would not have been at odds with each other, as they are now and will be for a while.
To me, it doesn’t matter either way what happens. I’m not from Colusa, but I chose to live here. BOTH SIDES HAVE LEGITIMATE POINTS. But what is the point of creating a controversy when we didn’t have to? And what have we accomplished? Is it worth it? What’s going to happen now? Does the casino see less local support? Does the Indian Community give less support to the schools, etc? Time will tell.
Like I said, should have left it alone. The Feds would have eventually made us make the change anyway, which in turn, would have avoided a “civil war” in Colusa. And besides, if the Feds force the change, wouldn’t they contribute funds to change it (see $60,000 needed to cover potential costs)?
So...shame on the person that “stirred the stink”! Why did you do that? I don’t get it. As for Colusa, don’t get involved in a “civil war”. There are too many civil wars already that we are needlessly involved in (see Iraq).
