Bodies of missing couple found

The bodies of a couple reported missing in the Manton area since Dec. 24, were located by Shasta Search and Trackers last week.

Eric James Eide, 54, of Manton, and his girlfriend, Camille Rae Kober, 52, of Berkeley, were reported missing by Eide's mother on Christmas Eve.

The were located at at 10:35 a.m. Friday, officials said.

Eide was seen at North State Recycling on Dec. 20, driving a maroon 1992 Toyota pickup.

Eide was reportedly turning in scrap and told employees he was returning to the Pacific Gas & Electric property in Manton to get more metal.

PG&E workers reported finding Eide's truck in front of the gate at Volta Powerhouse Road. They said they left a note stating it needed to be removed by Dec. 22.

The pickup was not removed, so the utilities company requested assistance from the Shasta County Sheriff's Department.

A PG&E employee reported seeing Eide and Kober around 3 p.m. Dec. 21 walking onto the PG&E property at Volta Powerhouse Road, but a search of Eide's residence and the utilities company's property turned up nothing.

As the search for the couple continued Pacific Gas and Electric Company helicopter personnel, who had been briefed on the missing subjects, were directed to spend additional time during their normal air patrol to look in the area of the powerhouse.

Helicopter personnel reported seeing an orange piece of cloth or plastic in the dense foliage on the utilities company's property.

The object was located by the Sheriff's Office and it was believed to have belonged to the missing subjects.

A search was organized, and started early Friday. Evidence led the team to the bodies of Eide and Kober.

The Shasta County Sheriff's Office said no evidence of foul play or a possible crime was discovered at the scene.

The Sheriff's Office reported that during the week of the couple's disappearance, a large storm came through the area with heavy rain and snow.

Tracks and other evidence located in the area suggest Eide and Kober became disoriented when darkness fell and the temperatures began to drop.

The causes of death are unknown. The case is being sent to the Shasta County Coroner's Office for review.
