Firefighters' Crab Feed slated for Jan. 23
The Colusa Firefighters Association's annual Crab & Steak Feed Dinner and Dance is scheduled for Jan. 23 in the main exhibition hall at the Colusa County Fairgrounds. A no-host cocktail hour will start at 5:30 p.m. followed by the dinner at 6:30. The dance, with Northern Heat, will get under way at 9:30. The event also includes a raffle, and an auction is slated to start at 7:30. The cost is $40. Tickets are available at the firehouse. Proceeds go toward association activities, including a number of community events. For information, call 458-7721.
Experience a Taste of Italy
The Knights of Columbus will hold its third annual "Taste of Italy" fundraiser from 3-6 p.m. today at the Arbuckle Fire Hall. Door prizes will be available and entertainment will be provided by accordionist, Jerry Choate. Tickets are $20 for adults. Discover the Sutter Buttes past
The Middle Mountain Foundation will present a book signing event by author Mike Hubbartt at 1 p.m. on Sunday at Amicus Books Literary Arts Center, 413 D. St. in Marysville. A presentation of The Sutter Buttes, distinctive stories from the past that shaped the character of the local community today, light hors d'oeuvres and drinks will be offered. Free Throw Competition announced
All boys and girls ages 10 to 14 are invited to participate in the local level of competition for the 2010 Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship, starting at 2 p.m. today at Saint Bernadette's Hall on Ware Ave. in Colusa. Take your spaghetti out
The Colusa Lions Club will hold their "Take Out" Spaghetti Dinner from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday at the Egling Middle School cafeteria. Service will be provided by the Cub Scouts Pack 12. Meal includes spaghetti, salad, bread and dessert. Cost is $5 presale or $6 at the door. Proceeds go toward local charities. For tickets call 300-6039.

Drip irrigation workshop announced
The Colusa County Resource Conservation District and the Colusa County Cooperative Extension will present a workshop at the 2010 Colusa Farm Show on the use of buried drip irrigation in processing tomato production.
The workshop will take place on Feb. 2 from 1:30 -3:30 p.m. in the Sheep Barn Facility at the Fair Grounds. The agenda includes information on design and cost of buried drip systems, a tomato processor's perspective on yields and quality, the science behind buried drip irrigation, and grower comments from both an experienced user and a newer user of buried drip.
This workshop is free to the public and will present valuable information from industry experts. So, if you have ever considered using buried drip irrigation in your tomato fields, or are just curious to learn about it for other applications, this workshop is not to be missed.
