Tidal Waves complete fifth season
At the Arbuckle Tidal Waves awards ceremony on Aug. 23, 11 swimmers received pins for being on the team for its first five years in existence.
Alex High, Garrett Grimmer, Gabe Grimmer, Grant Grimmer, Jacob Delgadillo, Marina Delgadillo, Alexis Erickson, Carlyn Marsh, Sarah Marsh and Lauren Ornbaun have competed with the Tidal Waves all five years.
The team competes in the Golden Valley Swim League, which includes the Winters Warriors, Beale Barracudas and Natomas Aqua Bears.
This year the team, which has 18 boys and 18 girls, handed out 20 awards to swimmers who dropped more than 10 seconds off their personal record in an event.
Twenty-four swimmers went to the league championship meet. Colby Bates won the 13-14 boys 100-yard individual medley, 50-freestyle, 50-backstroke, 100-freestyle, 50-breaststroke, 50-butterfly and was part of two winning relay teams.
Bates went on to the Meet of Champions in Roseville where he finished 12th in the 50-butterfly with a time of 27.68 seconds. He was 21st in the 50-backstroke, 22nd in the 50-breaststroke and 27th in the 50-freestyle.
Emily Hathaway finished second in the 13-14 girls 50-breaststroke and took third in the 100-individual medley at the league meet. Hathaway, Callie Muniz, Arianna Garcia-Ochoa and Lauren Ornbaun finished second in the 200-freestyle relay.
Ben High finished second in the 13-14 boys 50-backstroke and 50-butterfly, and third in the 50-freestyle and 100-freestyle. Liam Cooper finished second in the 50-breaststroke and third in the 50-backstroke. Gabe Grimmer third place in the 100-individual medley and 50-breaststroke.
Jacob Corona, Garrett Grimmer, Hunter Scott and Alex High finished second in the 11-12 boys 200-freestyle relay.
Sierra Murphy took third place in the 9-10 girls 25-freestyle and 25-breaststroke.
Bryce Murphy finished second in the 7-8 boys 25-breaststroke.
