Briefs: Artists reception set Friday

A reception will be held from 5 p.m.-7 p.m. Friday for Willows artist Vic Kronberg, who is well-known in the region for his watercolors.

The reception will be held at the Arts Council office, 430 Market St., Suite C., Colusa.

Watercolors featuring wildlife, old barns, landscapes and more will be on display.

Photo reception is Friday

Photographers Sue Graue of Colusa and Sharon Barker of Willows will have their work on display for the 2013 Snow Goose Festival Art Exhibit, running Friday through Feb. 2 at Avenue 9 Gallery & Art Guild, 180 E. Ninth Ave., Chico.

An artist's reception will be held from 5 p.m-8 p.m. Jan. 25.

Firefighters set crab Saturday

The Kenny Frye Band will entertain the crowd at the annual Colusa Firefighters Steak, Crab Feed Dinner & Auction in the Main Exhibit Hall on the Colusa County Fairgrounds on Saturday

The social hour begins at 5:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 6:30, the auction at 7:30 and the dance at 9:30.

The cost is $40 before Jan. 17 and $45 after.

Tickets are available at the city fire station at 750 Market St., or from any of the firefighters. They will be sold at the door as well.

Must be at least 21 to attend.

Mobile mural project planned

The Colusa County Arts Council is organizing a Mobile Mural Project, aimed toward participation from adults and high school students in Colusa County.

Twenty-five applications will be available at each school, or adults may pick up applications at the Arts Council office located at 430 Market St., Suite C, Colusa.

The theme is "Create — inspire, Create — vision, Create— Love, Create — Unity."

Application deadline is Jan. 31.

Colusa council to set goals

The Colusa City Council will hold a workshop to set goals for the new year at 1 p.m. Thursday at Rocco's Bar & Grill located on Market Street across from the historic courthouse.

The council is scheduled to set goals and objectives through the 2015, and to discuss some of the strengths and weaknesses of the council.

Among the goals to discuss are improving infrastructure, long-term financial stability, improving technology, enhancing public safety and enhancing community involvement and engagement.

Transparency, or the lack of it, has been a big issue in the last year or so.

The council also is expected to discuss the kind of city manager it wants, including the responsibilities of the position.

Learn about rose pruning

A rose pruning workshop is being offered from 2 p.m.-4 p.m. Sunday in the grandstands of the Colusa County Fairgrounds.

The event is being put on by the Master Gardeners and the Colusa County Farm Bureau.

Bring pruners, loppers, saw and gloves.
