Arbuckle holding youth football sign-ups
Arbuckle will have its own youth football program next season and the Arbuckle Jr. Bears are holding sign-ups for its first season on Feb. 8 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Pierce High gym.
The Jr. Bears will play in the Independent Sports Alliance of California against teams from Esparto, Rio Vista and Winters.
In previous years, players from Arbuckle played with the Colusa Cowboys, which plays in the Northern California Federation, but demand for a team in Arbuckle was high enough Pierce High assistant football coach Chuck Wayman decided to start the program.
Players from Arbuckle and the surrounding areas, including Williams, who are ages 6 to 14 (entering the eighth grade) are eligible to sign up.
The team has about 45 players signed up already and needs 60 to qualify to play on the mighty mites, pee wee, junior midget and midget teams.
Registration is $200, with at least $50 due at the time of registration and the rest paid by March 1. Money will not be refunded after March 1.
A copy of a birth certificate is needed at the time or registration. Practices will start at the end of July with games beginning in August. Practices will be held five days a week until school begins and on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday after the first day of school. Games will be played on Saturdays.
The Jr. Bears are also seeking coaches and volunteers. Contact the Jr. Bears at 383-6513 or email@example.com for more information.
