Hospital honors volunteer
Nancy Newlin was honored in two ceremonies last week for her role in saving the Colusa Regional Medical Center from bankruptcy and her 13 years of volunteer work for the hospital. She was recognized by the medical center board of directors on Aug. 22 and was awarded a certificate of appreciation by the Colusa City Council on Aug. 20.
According to a statement from the hospital, "As co-chair of the 'Save our Hospital' Marketing Committee with Dr. Julian Delgado, Newlin was able to raise enough in private pledges and actual donations to reach the funding needed to facilitate the purchase of the hospital from bankruptcy. It was an enormous undertaking, and it is an outstanding example of what our community can do.
"Thanks to Nancy's leadership, energy, and fundraising efforts, the community of Colusa was able to keep access to healthcare available to its citizens. Closure of the hospital would have created severe hardships for those in need of emergency care. Also, loss of the hospital would have had a major negative economic impact to the community."
"You should take great pride in this accomplishment," Mayor Tom Reische said to Newlin.
