Panthers tip off league slate with win
The Maxwell High boys basketball game began the Mid-Valley League portion of their season the same way they've ended 13 of their 15 game so far this season - with a win.
Playing in front of their hometown fans, the Panthers used a 23-rebound, 17-rebound performance by Zach Troughton and 17 points from Isaias Martinez to quell Quincy 67-45 on Friday.
Maxwell's highest scoring output came in the first quarter when they shot their way to a 20-10 lead, and they extended the advantage to 36-19 by halftime.
Eight Panther players scored in the contest, with Eddie Rangel netting nine points and Blake Vierra helping out with five.
Rangel also collected nine rebounds, as the Panthers cleaned the glass for 48 boards total.
Bryce Perry dished the ball for five assists and Martinez flashed for four of their nine steals.
Maxwell (13-2, 1-0 MVL) plays in Williams (7-6, 0-1 MVL) tonight, and plays at Colusa on Friday.
