Bank giving to nonprofit groups
Umpqua Bank is launching a Joy of Giving Facebook Campaign to give away $50,000 this holiday season.
To participate, individuals simply visit www .facebook.com/umpquabank and post about a favorite nonprofit organization. Posts should include the name of the nonprofit, its location and a brief explanation of why it is valued.
Any nonprofit in Umpqua's four-state territory — California, Nevada, Oregon and Washington — is eligible.
The campaign runs through Dec. 16.
Garden Club will meet Monday
The Garden Club of Colusa County will meet on at 6:30 p.m. Monday at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church at the corner of Fifth and Webster streets in Colusa.
Master Gardener John Vafis will present a program on using less toxic pesticides in the garden.
Guests are welcome.
Gang awareness meeting slated
A gang awareness meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. Monday in the multipurpose room of Egling Middle School on Webster Street in Colusa.
Presentations will be made by Robert Sharma, a Colusa High School graduate, from the Sutter County Probation Department, as well as Colusa County law enforcement representatives.
The event is being put on by the Colusa County Office of Education Gang Operations Team.
Spot open on city heritage panel
The City of Colusa is taking applications for a vacancy on the Heritage Preservation Committee.
Applicants must live in the city. The deadline to submit an application is Tuesday. The City Council is expected to make the appointment on Dec. 4

Irrigation workshop scheduled
PG&E will host an irrigation water management workshop, with registration open from 7:40-7:55 a.m. Wednesday at Colusa Casino Resort, 3730 Highway 45, Colusa.
The Advanced Pumping Efficiency Program, will demonstrate live pump simulations to show their effect on energy use, as well as talk about energy successes from local farmers and more.
A light breakfast and sit-down lunch will be provided, as well as time for networking with local ranchers, growers, and vendors in attendance.
Safe Haven holding open house
The Safe Haven Drop-In Center will host a Holiday Open House from 2-4 p.m. Wednesday.
The center is located at 131 Fifth St., Colusa. It will be open for refreshments and tours.
An Angel Tree will be in place from which visitors can take a paper ornament and then help support the need that it represents.
