Lady Eagles run past Greenville
It's not often Princeton High's Amanda Hansen is held to just one point in any given quarter, but she wasn't held down for long.
After being limited to a single point in an 8-8 first quarter, Hansen scored 11 of the eagles' 17 in the second quarter and finished with a team-best 21 in Princeton's 46-31 victory against Greenville on Saturday in the Elk Creek High Small School Holiday Classic.
A long-range trey launched by Juanita Almeda found its mark to put the Eagles up 8-1 in the first quarter, but rattled off the last seven points of the period to deadlock the score after one period of play.
The tie didn't last long, however, as Princeton put the first 11 points of the second quarter through the twine to open up a 19-8 lead they never looked back from.
Five points by Hansen, a pair of baskets by Julia Romo and a deuce by Maryssa Martin made up the run. Hansen closed the quarter with a field goal, a trey and a free throw to give Princeton a 25-15 lead at the half.
The lead increased to 12 points to open the closing quarter with the eagles up 35-23, before another 11-point string put the game out of reach.
Martin knocked down 12 points for the Lady Eagles, with Romo adding six and Almeda, five.
