Red Cross aids fire relief effort
Dear Editor:
On Tuesday, the Three Rivers Red Cross responded to two wildfires – one in Orland and one in Oroville. At the request of county offices we set up evacuation centers. The center in Orland closed after several hours, but we served many clients. Oroville has turned into a regular shelter.
Red Cross volunteers were deployed from Yuba, Sutter, Colusa, Butte, Glenn and Nevada counties. Partners like Costco, Raleys, Wal-Mart, Mountain Mike Pizza and Arby’s assisted in providing food and drink.
As the fires come to an end, the Red Cross will begin the task of assessing the damage and providing assistance to the victims. The Three Rivers Chapter of the American Red Cross is accepting donations for their Disaster Relief Fund.
You may send a check to the chapter office, 2125 E. Onstott Road, Yuba City, CA 95991. If you are interested in becoming a Red Cross volunteer, call 891-0885 or 673-1460.
