Letter: Media to blame for focus on gays
This letter is in response to the front-page article on Oct. 8 about the gay marriage in Colusa. Those of us opposed to this action get chastised for not being tolerant. We’d like to turn the tables and ask, how about tolerating those of us in opposition of this behavior?
When we get introduced to someone, it is not important for them to know about our sexual preference. Why would anyone care? We can work with, cooperate with, socialize with, worship with and tolerate people in any capacity without knowing what they do in their bedrooms.
The media is completely to blame for the way this situation has gotten so out of hand and caused so much dissent. And now our local media has succumbed and stooped to an all-time low in our opinion. How can it be that you are hurting for news to have to tell us about people who don’t even live here, let alone come here to do something that the majority of people already outvoted?
How about letting us know about good things that are happening in our schools and within our community? We have an election coming up with school board positions open; how about an article on the people running for these positions?
We could go on and on because we live and work in this community trying to do the right thing. We hope you will too.
