Richfield Elementary offers system to report bullying
In an effort to create a safe learning environment for all its students, Richfield Elementary School has introduced an online system, Sprigeo, students can use to report bullying incidents and school safety concerns.
In a letter provided to parents and guardians, school Superintendent/Principal Joe Gallaty said, "Sprigeo will give students and parents another medium for communicating with our school administration when bullying occurs or school safety may be compromised. All information sent through the Sprigeo system goes directly to the school administrator through a secure online connection and is confidential."
Students can access the Sprigeo reporting form directly through a sprigeo-bully reporting link on the school's website, or they may go to www.sprigeo.com. After completing the reporting form, the report details are sent in a secure email to school administration. Reports can be sent anonymously. Parents, community members, siblings and teachers can use the reporting system.
Unlike text messages or Facebook posts that can be shared among students, all Sprigeo reports are viewable only by school administrators, minimizing the impact one student has to falsely accuse another student.
"The number one reason why children do not report bullying or abuse is the fear of retaliation from their peers. The Sprigeo reporting form can be accessed from the privacy of a home computer or other Internet equipped device, eliminating the possibility of being identified by another student," Gallaty said in the letter. "We want all students, staff, parents and community members to feel safe and welcome at Richfield Elementary School."
