High school warns of fraudulent fundraising
Corning Union High School has issued a letter to business owners in town warning of "at least one company that is soliciting funds on the behalf of Corning Union High Schooll without our knowledge."
School officials said they are taking steps to prevent the false solicitation from happening within the community now or in the future.
The letter states that the only school-approved company working on behalf of Corning High School is Elite Fundraising, which produces football discount cards.
Normally, fundraising conducted for Corning High School activities is done by students, staff, or local community members.
"These types of fundraisers are generally easy to identify because they are being conducted by the students, coaches, or advisors themselves," the school states.
Corning High School Vice Principal Jared Caylor said in the letter no other company outside of Elite Fundraising, has been authorized to raise funds for the school.
"If you have any question as to a company's legitimacy, please feel free to write down the information and contact the school at 824-8000 prior to donating," Caylor said.
