Boy Scouts bring home badges from Wente
Boy Scouts Troop 5 of Colusa recently spent a week at the Wente Scout Reservation located in the mountains of Willits.
It was one of more than 14 troops representing more than 600 scouts at the camp — one of the largest weeks the reservation has had, said Amy Gerrard, the assistant scoutmaster.
The scouts worked on many merit badges ranging from Environmental Science, Fish and Wildlife Management, Horseback Riding, Riffle Shooting, Archery, Cinematography and Small Boat Sailing.
The scouts earned 51 badges as well as the Jr. Coral Award, Honor Pack and Honor Troop awards.
Shooting black powder riffles and axe throwing were also highlights.
Scouts also work on personal skills such as character building, leadership, problem solving, team building, trust as well as living by the Scout Oath and Law.
Troop 5 Colusa will meet regularly starting in September at the Colusa Scout Cabin located at Ninth and Parkhill streets.
New members and volunteers are always welcome. Any boy entering the sixth through 12th grades, or are between the ages of 11 and 17 are eligible.
