Glenn County coach accused of sexting students
A Hamilton High School volunteer track coach has been accused of sexual contact with at least one student and "sexting" several others.
Joshua Kelly Hernandez, 23, of Orland was arrested at about 4:30 p.m. last Wednesday at the high school and booked into the Glenn County Jail after nearly a full day of investigation revealed several sexually explicit photos of unclothed minors on his cellphone and evidence that he had sexual contact with at least one student.
Glenn County Sheriff Larry Jones said Hernandez was arrested on suspicion of multiple felony offenses, including contact with a minor with the intent to commit a sexual offense, sexual penetration with a foreign object with a minor, sending obscene matter depicting a minor and oral copulation with a person under the age of 18.
Hernandez is a volunteer assistant track coach at Hamilton High.
He also faces charges of possession of matter depicting a minor under the age of 14 engaged in sexual acts, which is a misdemeanor. Hernandez is being held on $230,000 bail.
Jones said his office was first contacted by Hamilton High School officials, who reported inappropriate sexual text messages between a student, a minor, at the high school and Hernandez.
During the investigation by the Major Crimes Unit, detectives learned Hernandez had previously arranged to meet one of the students after school hours away from the school, where the sexual activity between the two reportedly occurred, Jones said.
Jones said because the investigation is ongoing, neither his office nor school officials will comment further on the situation.
Anyone with information regarding the case is asked to call Detective Greg Felton of the Major Crimes Unit at 934-6720.
