Letter: More work needed on sidewalks
First off, I would like to commend the city of Colusa for their efforts to make curbs and sidewalks more accessible. The problem I have is when these curbs lead to nothing. It makes no sense to me that money and time would be spent on a curb that leads to dirt.
The lack of sidewalks in town is upsetting to me. It bothers me extremely to see a mother, pushing a stroller and leading two other children, walking in the street because there isn’t a sidewalk on the Fifth Street side of Burchfield Primary school.
It bothers me that the seventh- and eighth-graders at Egling Middle School run in the mud because there isn’t a sidewalk on Seventh Street. It really bothers me that, as a mother of a handicapped child, I am limited in where I can push his wheelchair.
I know there are several blocks in town that don’t have sidewalks. I’m not saying they all should have them right this minute. I am saying that heavily traveled paths should.
Start with having sidewalks all the way around the schools. That would be a huge improvement in itself. Then go to Bridge Street and so on.
It would be nice to have sidewalks everywhere, but I’m realistic enough to know that may never happen. I just don’t see the point of curbs leading to nowhere.
