Good news, sports fans!
School is definitely back in full session at high schools throughout Glenn, Colusa and Tehama counties, and I'm here to tell you that school is out for me. It's out in the sense that for my first couple weeks as sports editor I was learning the lay of the land, so to speak, as well as learning how much sports information could be gathered and assembled on a single page of the newspaper.
The good news for all you sports fanatics is that now that I've gotten my feet wet doing a single-page on Wednesdays, beginning next week all four papers will be expanding to a two-page sports section on Wednesdays. The two pages will give me ample space to include all schools that submit information, as well as all levels of high school sports, from freshman on up to varsity. The kids are making the effort, and here is where you can read about it.
The Wednesday and Friday papers are not the ONLY place you can get the latest sports information though, because in the days and weeks to follow you'll see more and more sports posted sooner and sooner on each of the Web sites.
The immediacy of the Web allows putting the stories up as soon as they're written, and with infinite page space to utilize, there will never be issues of "what to cut" in order to make everything fit.
The online versions of stories can also include more than one photo per game, and of course those pictures will be in vivid color. With a color printer you can now print out those athletic accomplishments you are most proud of and not worry so much about the paper yellowing from exposure to light.
Do you want to know how any of the other area football teams did Friday night? Scores are posted every Friday, normally before midnight — just look for "The Two-Minute Drill."
Be sure to check back often to any of the four Web sites to see what happened last night or the night before.
There are just so many great opportunities to improve how we deliver your sports information to you that we would not be doing our job if we did not give you the very best coverage available.
See you at the games!
