Valley West receives five-star rating
Valley West Care Center in Williams is now a five-star facility.
The upgraded five-star rating was announced in April 2013.
The five-star rating system was developed by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, similar to the five star ratings for hotels, said Administrator Sandi Baker.
"Five-star rating, the highest rating for nursing homes, is determined by annual inspections, staffing and quality of care, referred to as quality measures," Baker said in a statement.
Nursing homes that participate in Medicare and Medi-Cal programs have an onsite standard survey annually.
The surveys are unannounced and can be performed between nine and l5 months. The health inspections are based on points assigned to individual deficiencies according to scope and severity.
Valley West has had a long history of excellent survey results, stable staffing and improvement in quality of care, Baker said.
The facility also offers a Certified Nurses Aid training class, when there are very few training classes left in the north state.
The facility also offers an aggressive rehabilitation program, partnering with ONR (Orthopedic & Neurological Rehabilitation, Inc) and their team of physical, occupational and speech therapists.
Other special services offered includes the secured Alzheimer's care unit with specially trained staff to deal with residents suffering from dementia.
