Snow falls on foothills in Colusa and Glenn
Winter is still 10 days away, but the western foothills of Glenn and Colusa counties saw their first snow of the season on Friday.
The cold snap also brought a few flurries mixed with rain to Orland and Corning, but not the measurable amount needed to stick to the ground.
Although the sun was bright on Saturday, near freezing temperatures, even at noon, left ice on the road.
Hardest hit with ice and snow were near the Rail Canyon Road summit west of Ladoga in Colusa County, and between Stonyford and Elk Creek in Glenn County.
Temperatures ran 10 degrees below normal through Tuesday, but was not cold enough to break records for the longest cold spell, which occurred during the same time period in 1990, and with temperatures down into the teens.
Temperatures are expected to be back to normal by this weekend. Forecasters say temperatures will return to 50s during the day with lows in the 30s, which are typical for December.
