Opinion: Thumbs up, thumbs down: October 30, 2013
Have a safe and fun Halloween!
It's hard to believe it's already the end of October, and we just want to remind everyone to be on the lookout for trick or treaters on Thursday night.
It's one of the best holidays of the year to come together as a community, and it would be terrible to hear of an accident.
Colusa residents asked to find photos of Vietnam vets
On a wall in Washington D.C., there are inscribed more than 54,000 names. The men and women who bore those names went to Vietnam and didn't come home.
Some of them are from Colusa County. Of five of them, as reported by Brian Pearson in the Oct. 23 edition of the Sun-Herald, no photos exist.
The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund is trying to put faces to all of those names, and the group has asked Colusa residents to help find images of five of our own: Cpl. Frank Bagget, Ssgt. Krag Bullis Sr., Sgt. Monroe Cross, Cpl. David Madden and Pfc. Michael Pogue.
They made the ultimate sacrifice for us, and they should never be forgotten. All efforts made to ensure they aren't are welcome.
Golfers play a round to raise money for school trip
When Mark Twain famously quipped that golf was a good walk spoiled, he most assuredly was not thinking of this.
On Oct. 19, 48 golfers hit the links at Colusa Golf and Country Club, raising $3,700 to pay for Our Lady of Lourdes' seventh- and eighth-graders to travel to Washington D.C.
The one-day tournament was a big success, and we know the students will be grateful.
Even Mr. Twain might have been willing to forgive his shank on No. 7 for that.
