William Pennebaker
William H. “Bill” Pennebaker passed away Sunday, June 1, at the age of 89, following a long struggle with cancer.
Pennebaker was born November 23, 1918, in Visalia and was raised on the family ranch in Exeter.
He enjoyed his work and always worked doing exactly what he wanted. He was a Reserve Deputy Sheriff, Packer, Cowboy, Rough String Rider, Ranch Manager, and Ranch owner. He worked for many well-known California ranches in Yokahl Valley, Cuyama Valley, Santa Maria, and Willows, and at one time took care of cattle in nine western states, sometimes riding the train with the cattle.
Bill lived by his Grandfather Pennebaker’s traditions: Be honest; don’t lie; always be prompt; if your word is no good, you are no good.
He was preceded in death by his wife Rosemary, daughter Joyce, grandson Chuck, and granddaughter Sheila. He is survived by his son Emmet Pennebaker and wife Barbara; daughter Alice Pennebaker, 11 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and 8 great-great grandchildren.
Memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 21, at the Senior Citizen’s Center, 1031 Hospital Rd, Schurz, NV.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to Mt. Grant Long Term Care Facility, P.O. Box 1510, Hawthorne, NV 89415.
