Willows pilot identified in Williams crash
A pilot who died Monday evening when his experimental single-engine airplane went down in the hills west of Williams has been identified.
Lester Clark Baber, of Willows, died of multiple blunt force injuries, according to an official with the Colusa County Sheriff's Department.
Dental and medical records were used to confirm his identity, officials said.
The crash occurred about a half mile north of Highway 20, just inside the hills, according to a Williams Fire Department official.
The Fire Department responded between 7:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. Monday and helped CalFire extinguish a fire engulfing the aircraft and grass.
The scene was only accessible b a half-mile hike from the road, the official said.
