RedHawks sting Williams in county clash
The game was anybody's after the first quarter, but the hometown RedHawks made it theirs by outscoring the Yellowjackets 58-33 the rest of the way for the win on Friday.
Colusa High's R.J. Phillips netted 20 points in the winning effort, Max Moreno added 15 and Hayden Bailey, 12, but coach Brian Davis pointed out the play of Rigo Santana as being pivotal.
"Rigo proved the point of you give it all in practice and it will flow over to the game. Rigo took his hard efforts in practice and displayed them on the floor with his tough defense and smooth outside shooting," the coach said.
Santana finished with eight points, with Phillips earning a double-double with 11 rebounds.
Ricardo Rico led Williams with 13 points, Edgar Del Horno notched eight and Alex Velazquez and Noe Ramirez both pitched in with six.
Rico and Robert Ramirez each grabbed seven rebounds.
Colusa improved to 3-0 in the Mid-Valley League and 13-6 overall, while Williams fell to 0-3 in league play and 7-8 overall.
The RedHawks battled Maxwell at home on Wednesday, and end the week with a Friday matchup in Portola.
Williams played at Biggs on Wednesday and host Quincy on Friday.
