Colusa tennis stops Sutter
The RedHawks bounced back from their first loss of the season with a hard-fought, non-league win against Sutter High.
Colusa High (8-1, 3-0 Sacramento Valley League) lost to Orland on Tuesday but handled Sutter 8-1 on Thursday.
Coral Imhoff overcame a slow start to win the No. 1 singles match 6-4, 6-0. She fell behind 3-4 in the first set before winning the next nine games.
The rest of the RedHawks ladder moved up a spot as No. 2 Taylor Davies missed the match as she was out of town visiting a college. Cheyenne Laux moved up a spot on the ladder to No. 2 and won 6-0, 6-0.
Ashley Roman ran out to a 4-1 lead in the both sets but faced a tough fight before closing out a 6-5, 7-5 (7-4) victory.
Ann Kalisuch rallied from behind in both sets to win 6-3, 7-5. In the second set she trailed 4-1 before winning six of the next seven games.
Kodie Solis picked up a 6-1, 6-0 win and Shayne Myers moved into the varsity lineup and ran away with a 6-1, 6-1 victory to round out a Colusa sweep in singles.
With the match already in hand, Colusa coach Dak Kalisuch shifted his doubles lineup around.
Laux and Kalisuch took on Sutter's No. 1 doubles team and cruised to a 8-4 victory.
Haley Lyss and Myers struggled early but stormed back for a 8-6 win in the No. 2 doubles match.
Sutter (2-7, 0-3 BVL) picked up their only win of the day when Madi Dodd and Sara Roloff came back from a 4-1 hole to win 8-6 against Colusa's No. 3 doubles team of Corrina Ascencion and Estefania Orozco, who are both freshmen and were making their varsity debut.
