Williams remains on the offensive despite record

Despite a 1-6 record in the Mid-Valley League and a 1-9 overall mark, the Yellowjackets made a strong offensive showing all season long. Williams High was shutout just once, and they were in good company in that respect as Portola laid goose eggs on six other opponents too. Other than that one contest, the Yellowjackets put double-digit points up on the board in all its other games, reaching a season high in their 38-14 win over Esparto.

With linemen needing to go both ways due to a limited roster, the defense simply got worn down in the second half of many games.

Quarterback Carlos Velazquez not only led the team in passing, completing 57-of-157 pass attempts for 1,186 yards and 14 TDs, but he was also the Yellowjackets leading rusher with 466 yards in 117 carries. Pedro Boites was next with 249 yards in 43 carries. Fermin Hernandez got the most bang for the buck, scoring four times on 29 carries for 123 yards.

Martin Salcedo led the receiving corps with 22 catches for 563 yards and six scores, followed by Hernandez's 13-for-201 and Diego Rivera (10/193).

Leading tacklers were Rivera (64), Hernandez (62) and Velazquez (47).
