A ginkgo tree, a favorite of Virginia Yerxa, was planted in her honor on April 20 at Burchfield Primary School in Colusa. The tree was donated by Theta Mu Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International. Members wanted to pay tribute to the “tireless and selfless dedication” of Yerxa to children and their education. She was an honorary member of the group for many years before her death. Her son, Woody Yerxa, back right, shared memories of his mother and how she was always committed to providing for children. The annual Virginia Yerxa Community Read is today with a variety of activities focused around the John Steinbecks's “Grapes of Wrath” starting at 2 p.m. Also attending the tree planting were, from left, back row – Andy Lopez, Kay Spurgeon, Sharon Waite, Jeneane Wilsey, Barbara Donnelly, Woody Yerxa, Pat Tucker and Elsie Bisho; front row – Augustin Bautista, Kennedy Moss, Tyler Moss, and a Becky Fagg.
