Suspect arrested after alleged attack

A Colusa man faces felony assault charges after he allegedly clubbed another man across the face.

Gerald Patrick Spell, 22, was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon at his Parkhill residence Monday about four hours after he allegedly beat 40-year-old Dennis Brimm of Colusa.

Brimm was struck an unknown number of times and sustained a laceration across his forehead but did not require medical attention, Sheriff’s Lt. Shane Maxey said.

Spell allegedly assaulted Brimm with some kind of homemade club, which has not been recovered, Maxey said.

Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a group of men fighting at the corner of East Webster and Parkhill in Colusa around 10:30 a.m.

Maxey said no other victims or suspects were involved.

The motive for the alleged confrontation remains unclear, Maxey said.

Spell was arrested Monday and booked into Colusa County Jail in lieu of $25,000 bail.

He was released Tuesday and ordered to appear in Colusa County Superior Court Feb. 3 for arraignment.

Same-sex slapdown
What's your reaction to the state Supreme Court upholding the ban on same-sex marriage?
I'm glad to see the will of the majority of voters was supported.
I don't agree with it. Equal rights should be for all Californians.
