'Affair of the heart' suspect due in court
A 19-year-old Williams man, arrested Thursday afternoon at Williams High School, faces felony charges for a reportedly having an unlawful sexual relationship with a minor in what school authorities are calling "an affair of the heart that got out of control."
David Carmona Fuentes, 19, was expected to enter a plea Wednesday in Colusa County Superior Court. His arraignment was postponed Monday morning to allow the suspect more time to obtain an attorney, court records state.
Fuentes was arrested at noon on the high school campus and booked into Colusa County Jail on suspicion of unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor, false imprisonment and threatening a witness - all felonies.
Additionally, Fuentes faces possible misdemeanor charges of battery on a cohabitant, causing willful harm to a child and making annoying telephone calls, Colusa County Jail records state.
Williams police Sgt. Steve Woldanski said the department could not release the details behind the allegations of false imprisonment and battery because the alleged victim is a minor.
Woldanski did confirm "a dating relationship" between Fuentes and the alleged victim and said the arrest was sparked when Fuentes' family called police last week to report an alleged incident of domestic violence.
Dan Flanigan, Williams High School principal, said police informed the school Jan. 27 to be on the lookout for Fuentes, who they said would be attempting to contact a 17-year-old female student.
Fuentes, a former WHS student, had been told to stay away from campus, but was spotted by school staff Thursday just before noon.
He described the arrest as "surgically clean," and said Fuentes was taken in without incident.
Fuentes was still in custody Monday in lieu of $20,000 bail.
