Man who approached school girl wanted

A young school girl was approached today in Arbuckle by a man in a large Suburban-like vehicle, and the Colusa County Sheriff’s Department wants to find him.

“The local schools were notified, as were the local (law enforcement) agencies and the neighboring counties,” said sheriff’s Lt. Shane Maxey.

The man approached the girl walking at Fifth and Hillgate avenues, and reportedly yelled out at the girl to get into the vehicle, which was described as a 1980s Chevrolet or GMC Suburban-like vehicle, Maxey said.

“She did not,” Maxey said.

An older man who witnessed the exchange then yelled at the driver to get away from the child, and the vehicle drove off down Fifth Avenue, Maxey said.

Investigators also hope to talk to that witness.

“He may have more information that would be valuable to us,” Maxey said.

The vehicle was described as white without any distinguishing marks such as special wheels, decals or tinting in the windows.

The girl told investigators it appeared to have a lot of what she thought was luggage inside.

The driver was described as a man in his 20s or 30s, with short, dark hair and dark eyes, possibly Hispanic, Maxey said. He had a mustache.

The exchange between the driver and the girl was in English, Maxey said.

Anyone with information, and especially the witness who yelled at the driver, is urged to contact the Sheriff’s Department at 458-0200.
