Grimes man arrested for rape
A 28-year-old Grimes man was arrested on suspicion of rape and assault with a deadly weapon Thursday afternoon
Juan Manuel Hernandez reportedly raped his girlfriend, Colusa County sheriff's Sgt. Mark Contreras said.
The woman's name was not released due to the nature of the reported crime, and Contreras said he did not have her age or place of residence available.
Sheriff's deputies responded shortly after 5 p.m. to a residence on the 1300 block of Highway 45 south of Grimes on domestic violence call.
Contreras confirmed a report that a shot had been fired. But without witnesses, he said, that is under investigation.
The back window of the woman's car was shot out, the District Attorney's Office said.
Hernandez was booked into the Colusa County Jail. Bail was set at $140,000, but a parole hold was placed on him.
Hernandez was on parole for assault with a deadly weapon stemming from a 2010 case in which he pleaded guilty to assault with a deadly weapon with the likelihood of causing great bodily injury, Colusa County Superior Court records state.
The counts on which he was booked Thursday are suspicion of rape by force or fear; assault with a deadly weapon not a firearm, with great bodily injury likely; inflicting corporal injury upon a spouse or cohabitant; a convicted felon in possession of a firearm; a convicted felon in possession of ammunition; and false imprisonment.
The District Attorney's Office said it would also file a count of assault with a firearm.
