Brothers' violent argument leads to arrest
A Stonyford man was arrested Monday after an argument with his brother over an off-road vehicle allegedly turned violent.
Martin Neal Darren, 49, and his brother, Mitch, were arguing just before 9 a.m. on Rail Canyon Road east of Stonyford for reasons that remain unclear.
Darren allegedly fired three rounds from a .22 caliber rifle “around” his brother, Colusa County sheriff’s Lt. Shane Maxey said.
“Then the brother told him if he touched the four-wheeler again, he’d kill him,” Maxey said.
The alleged victim left and called authorities. He was not injured.
Sheriff’s deputies arrested Darren without incident around 10:45 a.m. on Sites-Lodoga Road.
“He had the rifle on him that was allegedly used,” Maxey said.
Darren was booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, brandishing a firearm, negligently discharging a firearm, threats and being a felon in possession of a firearm. He remains in custody in Colusa County Jail with bail set at $25,000. A court date was not available.
