Willows KFC robber pleads guilty
A Washington state man pleaded guilty in Glenn County Superior Court Wednesday to robbing a fast food restaurant in Willows earlier this month.
Daniel Charcoal, 46, admitted to grabbing a sack of coins from the Kentucky Fried Chicken franchise owner Dec. 4 after reportedly stating he had a gun, police and witnesses reported.
KFC Store owner and manager Leticia Apodaca said she was preparing to put money into the store safe when a man, later identified as Charcoal, stepped out of the customer line, came around the counter, said he had a gun, grabbed the money bag and ran away.
Charcoal fled in a green Subaru south on Interstate 5. He was stopped about 4 miles north of Williams by the California Highway Patrol and arrested after he was identified by witnesses, police said.
Police recovered the coins, which reportedly totaled less than $100, but no gun was ever located.
Charcoal is due back in court Jan. 19 for sentencing.
